So today I attempted to take advantage of the lovely weather and leave the comfort of my bed to study out of doors, specifically in one of Manhattan’s public parks. I was immediately plagued with indecision, which park to choose? Because really, all of the parks have such distinct personalities that you really must plan ahead with the knowledge of what you’re getting yourself into. So I was was forced to ponder the parks and determine which would best suit my studying needs. I first thought of Central Park with its miles of flowing grass. But it is all the way uptown which would mean I would need to take the subway. This would defy the purpose of leaving my room to acquire fresh air. Park veto. Besides, it would be filled with bikini-clad sunbathers and really, it is still a bit too cold for that and I would get cold just looking at them. I then thought of Washington Square Park, an old favorite based on my idea that all of the squirrels secretly are rats at night like super heroes with multiple identities. Except vermin. But now that WSP is two thirds closed on its way to pretty gentrification that contradicts my Bob Dylan loving ways, benches are hard to come by and the grass is all dusty. Plus, I find it hard to study there with the sound void that was once filled with the musical sounds of “smoke smoke.” Alas, another park vetoed. Then there’s Union Square, a popular alternative for Washington Square. I like that Ghandi statue. But I then realized that all that political activism might get in the way of my book-reading. I might get distracted by the tables of “Vote Obama” t-shirts for sale and spend the whole afternoon wondering how they plan to sell those post-election. Tourists? Vintage? not sure. Plus I always manage to end up talking to at least 3 people who want me to sign something. I attract them like flies to honey. Greenpeace…check. Spa packages…yup. The children….always. Its always strange the lines they use to start talking to me and how I always fall for them. Do you cut your hair? Do you care about the pandas? I can’t resist. I once had someone actually “fish” me off the sidewalk with an invisible fishing line. Those crafty Greenpeace fellas. I guess I just like talking to random strangers even if they are only trying to get my name on a list. Well anyway, I ended up at Madison Square Park, my local Yuppie shake-filled oasis. I thought it was a safe bet, its a pretty tame place. Little did I know. It all happened as I was slouching lazily on my bench, eyes gazing at the slightly boring book I was forced to read for class. Then I heard it, the polite “excuse me” I had heard in his exact park before. I looked up and saw them, the multi-national duo of conservatively dressed twenty-somethings. They smiled at me eerily. I looked back at my book. They came over, they sat down on either side of me. I kept looking at my book. Then they asked the question, Have you ever heard of mother God? I said yes, had heard about it in this very park. They asked if I had heard the Bible passages, still smiling, shooting each other confident glances. I said yes, I had. they asked then why I had not signed up for their religious classes, wasn’t I convinced by the passages of the holy bible? No, I wasn’t. They asked why. Because I’m not. Really? Yes. They walked away, assuring me that in the future I would see the benefits of this. I read my book. Once they had fled to their next victim, the people across from me asked what it was all about. I explained. We chit chatted. Finally, I spoke with random strangers in the park who didn’t want me to sign something. They just wanted to talk to me about people who wanted me to sign something! Still, I accomplished something. Next time, Stuyvesant Square!
My new blog!

This is a kitten in a field.
So…I have a new blog! Thanks to my roommate Valerie Burchby for inspiring me to create this blog and for allowing me to convince myself that I am unbelievably interesting, enough to merit a blog that the whole world will read! Yes I said the whole world because I set up my account so that my blog will be findable on google and everyone in the world uses google. So there. Hopefully I will remember to update this blog and remember that I actually have it and not be distracted by the multiple colorful things that hang from my ceiling or the sunshine streaming in through my windows (not today but sometimes) and the rainbows on the wall. I know this blog will be a challenge, taxing my abilities to be clever and witty. But I will try to do the world of Internet thought-sharing justice and uphold the integrity of the blog. That’s all for now as I am writing this from my bed and the allure of snuggling up in my blankets without my laptop right now is just too tempting. Bye!
